Bolstered by a latency free connection (on account of the USB Bluetooth 5.1 dongle that maintains its strength up to at least eight meters away from the console, the Turtle Beach Stealth Gen 2 MAX headset ably acquits itself in this category with wireless performance that is certainly in the upper echelon of many of the gaming headsets that are available to buy on the market today. The only slight drawback is that on a rare occasion I’ve had to turn off and turn the headset back on again in order to force it to pair with my PS5. Though hardly ideal, I can count on one hand the number of times it has happened over the past month and it doesn’t meaningfully tarnish the sheer wealth of other things that the Turtle Beach 700 Gen 2 MAX headset gets right.
Beyond its admirable wireless performance, the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX headset also boasts an impressive range of cross-compatibility with other gaming platforms too. This means that you can instantly swap and pair the Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX headset with PC, mobile and Nintendo Switch gaming platforms, in addition to your PS4 and PS5 consoles – super handy if you happen to be switching from one gaming console/mobile to another in your household, or if you’re visiting a friend/relative.
Battery Life
Certainly the flagship feature of the Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX headset, it’s easy to see why Turtle Beach makes such a big deal of the battery life in its latest device. Clocking in at a gargantuan 40 hours from just a single charge, the Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX headset can go for absolutely ages and for folks that like their gaming sessions long, it’s somewhat refreshing to discover that the Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX headset doesn’t let you down in this regard at all.
Though it isn’t quite up there with the 48 hours that is promised and delivered by the Stealth 600 Gen 2 MAX headset, the Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX headset still gives you plenty of game for your buck all the while providing players with a range of cutting edge features. Speaking of which…
Sound Quality
Quite simply, the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX headset pumps out some incredible sound and is absolutely one of the best headsets on the market in terms of pure sound quality. Leveraging the same 50mm Nanoclear speakers that also feature in the mid-tier Stealth 600 Gen 2 MAX headsets, the 700 variant kicks out sound that is clear, loud and full of palpable depth.
Where the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX stands astride from its 600 series predecessor however, is in how the headset fully employs 3D audio to make the most of the PS5’s Tempest audio technology. Certainly, hearing Kratos Leviathan Axe swing around and whoosh past your head before landing in his grip is a real treat, while hearing granular pitter patter of rain during The Last of Us Part 1 is also equally palpable and really helps to immerse you in the on-screen action like never before.
Form Factor & Comfort
One aspect of the Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX headset that Turtle Beach doesn’t nearly speak enough about is just how comfortable and well made the whole thing is. From a purely comfort perspective, the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX headset is easily one of the most comfortable headsets I’ve ever worn. Largely that’s down to the aerofit cooling gel-infused memory foam ear cushions that makes wearing the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX headset as comfortable in hour six as it is in hour one.
In addition to the ear cushions, the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX headset also has an easily retractable design that allows players to effortlessly tweak the headset for the unique dimensions of their head without sacrificing comfort. Elsewhere, the various buttons and dials feel much more premium here than they did in the 600 Gen 2 MAX headset, proving easy to use and not distracting at all from the important business of gaming while you have the headset in use. Meanwhile, the snap down microphone is both easy to use while also providing clear chat audio in the bargain.
In every way that counts the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX headset feels heads and shoulders above the 600 series that came before it, turning in a functionally robust, long-life and more importantly supremely comfortable headset that is among the very best that you can buy right now.
