The director behind Final Fantasy VI is still pushing for a remake of the fan-favourite RPG, despite just last month admitting it would be “difficult” for it to happen.
Kitase-san made his comments during a roundtable interview with various big name Square Enix developers, where he simply said, “working on the games was great fun and I would just like to push FFVI again!”
Final Fantasy VI remains one of the most celebrated entries in the long-running series, and while a remake would obviously go down well with fans, Square Enix is juggling a lot of plates lately. For starters, we have Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and its as-yet unannounced follow-up, plus of course Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis.
If that wasn’t enough, we’ve also heard some pretty wild rumours that Square Enix is working on a Final Fantasy X Remake, which will supposedly arrive in 2026 to coincide with the PS2 original’s 25th anniversary.
