Pagies (25)
If any specific ability is necessary to obtain a Pagie, that ability will be noted in italics at the beginning of the description, along with the first stage you can purchase/obtain it from abbreviated in brackets. Hivory Towers is HT, Tribalstack Tropics is TT, Glitterglaze Glacier is GG, etc. If the ability you need is a freebie from Hivory Towers, the area in which it is unlocked will be included in the brackets.
Any Pagie (or other collectible) marked with an asterisk (*) can only be obtained in the extended version of the stage.
Unfortunately there is no filing system in-game to show which Pagies you have collected, so my order of collection may be wildly different to what you have done.
P01: You will find a cloud with a helmet on this stage named Nimble, and he will challenge you to a race. Simply win the race against him to be rewarded with a Pagie.
P02: After obtaining the Arcade Token, find the arcade machine above where the token was located, and meet Rextro. After a chat with him, insert your token into the machine to play Kartos Karting. Simply make your way around the track 5 times to complete this challenge and receive a Pagie from Rextro.
P03: After playing Kartos Karting once, Rextro will challenge you to beat his high score of 2 minutes and 30 seconds. If you can complete all 5 laps faster than that, he will give you yet another Pagie.
P04: Sonar Shot (TT) From Rextro’s arcade cabinet, turn around and jump across the gap, where ahead you should see a few red smiley/frowny face platforms. Jump to the first, then immediately to the second, taking you to a sleeping totem. Wake it and the couple subsequent totems up with your sonar to make more platforms appear, dodging or taking out the wasps as you go. Soon you’ll see a Pagie in a cagie. The totem to open up the cagie hidden behind it, so jump and sonar to claim your reward.
P05: From Trowzer, go down the ramp to the left. Talk to the Pagie piece in the opened crate and agree to find the missing pieces nearby. Walking into the shade past there, hug the left to find the first piece on the ground. In this area you’ll find Sir Scoffsalot, the pig knight. The second piece can be found on a ledge up and to the left of Sir Scoffsalot. The third and final piece is also up, on one side of the two floating platforms you should be able to see by looking up from the ground. Take all three pieces back to the Pagie in the box, and they will reform.
P06: In the same area as P05, find and speak to Sir Scoffsalot. Accept his request to find his 3 fellow pig knights throughout the stage. The first is near the stage’s start, hiding under the wooden ramp that leads up to the skeleton in a boiling pot. Go talk to them, then find the second one behind Rextro’s arcade cabinet, and talk to them too. The final pig can be found in Rampo’s treasure chamber, which is a hidden area at the base of the ruins where you fight Rampo in the extended version of the world (see P12). The base is reachable in the normal version however, and speaking to the final pig will net you a Pagie.
P07: Buddy Slam (TT) From Trowzer, walk past him and jump straight off the ruins. There is a narrow, almost hidden path in the wall ahead, marked with a torch. Go through and follow the path up and to the left until you see a blue button on the ground. Slam it, then jump through the 5 hoops before time runs out to collect the Pagie in the cagie at the end of the hoops.
P08: Find this stage’s Mollycool and give it to Dr. Puzz, to be able to transform into a flower. The first time you do this, an NPC flower nearby will get your attention. Go talk to her, and she will request you pollinate 6 other flowers nearby to help them grow. Once you’ve done so, she’ll give you a Pagie. Note that while 5 of them are easy to reach without much effort, the sixth one requires you to change back into a lizard and bat, and spin attack some crates to lower a bridge first.
P09: Buddy Slam (TT), Slurp Shot (TT) At the ruins where Trowzer hangs out, in the four corners, are four slightly raised platforms that can be destroyed with a Buddy Slam. Destroy all four platforms, then head down to the ground. On one side of the ruins is an entrance to Duke’s Temple. Once the platforms are broken away, Duke will let you take part in a target contest. Use your Slurp Shot to win the contest, and Duke will unlock a cagie containing a Pagie.
P10: From the stage’s start, roll up the hill, then proceed up the wooden ramp to your right to find a skeleton boiling in a pot. Talk to her and defeat the subsequent waves of enemies to be rewarded with a Pagie.
P11*: Slurp Shot (TT) On the path past the skeleton and pot you will find Shovel Knight, who will ask you to continue up the path to find a red jewel for him. Once you’ve scaled as much as you can, look up to see the red jewel in the side of the tower. Use your Slurp Shot to shoot it down, then return to Shovel Knight for a Pagie.
P12: Sonar Shot (TT) From the stage’s start, roll up the hill then hug the left edge until you find a sleeping totem. Use Sonar Shot on the totem to reveal a hidden platform that, when jumped on, will take you upwards. Find and Sonar more totems as you continue up, then ride a moving platform with one last totem and a Pagie in a chest. Wake this final totem up to unlock the chest and claim your reward.
P13*: From the first totem of P12, continue past it to a ramp and roll up it. Start making your way up the ruins, and Rampo will shout a warning from the top to turn back. Ignore his order and scale the ruins, meeting him at the top for a showdown. Defeat him to win another Pagie.
P14*: When climbing the massive monument (the tallest ruins in the stage), go right when the path first forks. Proceed to the next section to find Kartos. Accept his request and collect at least 60 gems during the following mini-game to receive a Pagie as payment.
P15*: Slurp Shot (TT) When climbing the massive monument, go left when the path first forks and proceed to the next area. Stand on the switch to swing the ramp straight ahead, to reach the blue flower. Slurp it up and move the ramp to the next area over (left from the flower, right from the area’s entrance), and jump on the smiley face platform on the left side up. Jump toward the vent in the wall and shoot it with water, and it will give you a Pagie. If you can’t make it in time before your flower power runs out, it might be easier to wait until you’ve got Yooka’s Lizard Leap (GG) or Laylee’s flight abilities. Either one of these negates the need to swing the slow-moving ramp so much, which saves a lot of time.
P16*: From the entrance to the ramp at P15, swing the ramp left and head to that section, then look right to see several enemies atop a land mass across a gap. Double jump and spin to get across, then talk to the locked up Pagie. Successfully jump through all the hoops in the allotted time to obtain this Pagie. Make sure you do not attempt to kill the wasps, and instead let them fire their attack and float out of your way before jumping.
P17*: Reptile Rush (CC) After finding Nimbo, use the blue flower on him to make it rain, then the white flower to turn the rain to snow and ice. Go back down to the ground and challenge Nimble (see P01) to another race on the ice track. This is a much more challenging race then the first one, but with your trusty spindash you should be able to win easily enough. Nimble rewards you again for your victory with a Pagie.
P18*: Slurp State (GG) Near Kartos (see P14) are some cannonballs you can slurp up to make you heavy. Do that, then walk right by all the blowing vents, and find a Pagie in a cagie just past them. Talk to it, and the cagie will open for you.
P19*: Buddy Slam (TT), Slurp State (GG) Carry on from P18 down the path and continue scaling the monument until you find Blastooie the cannon. Talk to him and accept his request to give his “friends” some “presents.” Slam on his back to fire cannons at the four faces ahead of him. Knocking all four down lets you get at the nearby Pagie in a cagie.
P20: Buddy Slam (TT), Walk Underwater (HT, Archives) There is a pool of water at the base of the monument, directly next to the shortcut that is unlocked when you pound the switch near Nimbo. Dive in to find a switch next to one of the vents. Use R2 to create your air bubble so you can walk around, and slam the switch to open a nearby gate. Continue down to see a Pagie floating round and round. Follow the circular room around to find the switch to deactivate the current near some quills. Pound that switch, then collect your Pagie.
P21: Slurp Shot (TT), Buddy Slam (TT) From Trowzer, slide down the ramp to the right to find a puzzle in need of solving. First you must take out the sentry, which can be done with a slurped flower shot. The closest flower I could find is the same one from P12, so you’ll probably want to roll back from the flower to the puzzle to get there before your flower power runs out. Shoot the sentry, then look at the 5 hieroglyphics above the platform you’re standing on. Find those five symbols on the grid, then slam them in the correct order to unlock a caged Pagie up above.
P22*: Slurp Shot (TT) In addition to slurping, you must have learned the free hub world invisibility ability from Trowzer for this one. Enter the monument from its front entrance (you’ll find the Pagie at the end of the puzzle inside), and go invisible to make it by the motion sensor gate and walk past the I.N.E.P.T. sentries. There are plenty of butterflies around, so don’t worry about running low on power. Beyond the first sentry there are two paths – go right first, past the second sentry, and slurp up the fire flower. Go back the other way and use your firepower to melt the giant ice block in your way. Take note of the big stone blocks to the right, then go left and around the corner. Invisibly roll past the third sentry on the ramp up, as well as the fourth sentry down the next ramp to the left. Behind that one is a new flower type that allows you to spit grenades. Slurp it and fire away at the sentries to get them out of your way, then go back to those stone blocks and blow them up. Either invisible past the next two sentries or take them out (my preferred method), and find a snow flower behind the second of those two. Slurp it up then turn around, jump immediately to the platform above, turn around again, and hit the ice switch to open a shortcut to the grenade flower. Slurp that one again and go back through the shortcut, and fire through the grating at the stone blocks opposite the shortcut way. Go invisible, roll up the hill past those final two sentries, and collect your Pagie bounty at the end.
P23: Once you get the ability to fly from Trowzer later in the game (it’s his final free hub world ability), come back and fly above the ruins where Trowzer hangs out to see several normal pages and one Pagie fluttering in the wind. Fly up and grab it!
P24: Collect all 5 Ghost Writers (see below) to automatically unlock a Pagie.
P25: Collect all 200 Quills on this stage to unlock the final Pagie.
Ghost Writers
Each color of Ghost Writer requires a different tactic to capture them. Here’s the breakdown:
Yellow is the easiest, and can just be nabbed as soon as you find it.
Red will try to attack you, but you can dodge to make it change color. If you successfully dodge and counter-attack two or three times, it’ll turn green and you can capture it.
Green moves quickly, and must be attacked and subdued, but they are much easier to stop than the red ones.
Blue will giggle and laugh at you while blinking in and out of sight, so you must use a sonar ability to make it appear. Once you successfully hit it with your sonar, it’s yours.
Purple requires you to “feed” it by shooting it with an edible projectile such as the white snow flower pellets. Once it has had its fill, you can nab it.
Where to find them in Tribalstack Tropics:
Yellow: At the stage’s start, turn around and jump off the ledge through an archway. On the ground below, turn back around and you’ll see an alcove with the yellow Ghost Writer waiting to be collected.
Red*: When at the switch for Pagie 15, aim the ramp left and head up to the next area. Cross over to the bouncing eyes (you may fight or run past it), and follow the platforms that lead down to another pair of hostile eyes. Again, fight or flee, it doesn’t matter. Either way, continue right and you’ll see the red Ghost Writer in a sandy patch with two other enemies. Take them out so you can focus on red, and follow the above tactics to get it.
Green: From the stage’s start, roll up the hill then follow the water to the right. You’ll find the green Ghost Writer at the end of that path in a sandy patch. Use your spin attack to stop it.
Blue: From the crate where Pagie 05 was, head into the shade and follow the left path. It will lead you to a dead end where you should head the ghost giggling. Use your sonar to catch it.
Purple: From the stage’s start, roll up the hill and continue left until you see a white plant. Slurp it up, then turn directly around 180 degrees, and jump up the grass and pillar platforms. At the top is the hungry purple Ghost Writer, which you must feed with the white flower shots you’ve got stored. Shoot it a few times to satisfy it, then grab it.
Rextro’s Token
When standing in front of Nimble (the cloud you can race against), hop onto the race track to the right, and follow that path until you find a hidden alcove in a wall on the right. Just inside you’ll see the token floating up above. Jump onto the nearby platform to reach it. This allows you to play the game Kartos Karting at Rextro’s arcade machine on this stage.
Mollycool
Sonar Shot (TT) Move around to the other side of the ruins where Trowzer is located, and you should see a sleeping totem next to what looks like a transparent platform. Use your Sonar Shot on the totem to wake it up and activate the platform, then ride the platform up. On the next level you’ll see a series of floating platforms, moving back and forth. Jump on the one that comes close to the ruins, then carefully jump to the subsequent platforms as they come close. After a few of these moving platforms you’ll see the Mollycool atop a stationary pillar. When your platform gets close, just jump over and grab it!
Butterfly Upgrade*
When climbing the massive monument, go right when it first forks. As soon as you round the first corner, look at the left wall. Jump on the floating platform, then follow the path to the end to find the upgrade.
Power Upgrade*
Sonar Shot (TT), Buddy Slam (TT), Slurp State (GG), Lizard Leap (GG)
Head to Blastooie the cannon (see P19) and look to his right to see a sleeping totem. Activate it and ride the new platform up, and continue up the next platform as well. From there high jump onto the tippy top of the monument, where you’ll find the power upgrade.
Other Tips and Information
Expanding the World: It costs 1 Pagie to unlock Tribalstack Tropics, and 3 more to expand it.
Finding Nimbo: Continue down past the red Ghost Writer to find the large cloud Nimbo. In the surrounding area are three different flowers: red (fire), blue (water), and white (snow). By default Nimbo isn’t doing anything, but slurping the blue flower and spraying him causes him to start raining, thus filling Nimble’s race track down below with water. From rain, you can hit Nimbo with the white flower power to make snow, and freeze the race track (see P17 above). Hitting Nimbo with fire from snow takes it back to rain, and hitting him with fire from rain causes the world to become dry again.
Shortcuts: Below Nimbo there’s a switch you can pound to open a shortcut from his platform straight down to the ground level.
Flying: The final free ability Trowzer gifts you in Hivory Towers is the ability to fly at will, meaning you can bypass many of the puzzles and solutions listed above. Like for the power upgrade, instead of making your way slowly to the top using all those other abilities, just take flight from the ground and cruise on up to the top. Flying is incredibly helpful, so if you’re stuck on a particular puzzle, maybe try coming back to it later when you’ve got the power of flight.
