WWE 2K25 Creative Director Says He May Consider ‘One-Off’ Payment Option For Unlocking Persona Cards

WWE 2K25 Creative Director, Lynell Jinks, has revealed during an interview with VGC that the development team may consider offering a one-off payment method to unlock all loot box-based Persona cards at some point down the line.

Personas are a character card type introduced in WWE 2K24, which are unlocked in MyFaction Mode — essentially that game’s version of Ultimate Team from EA Sports FC — and allow you to take on the role of a WWE superstar with different appearances. These include action figure incarnations of some wrestlers, PSOne-style ‘remake’ variations, and superstars sporting some of their most iconic outfits from career highlights.

The vast majority of these Persona cards however are locked in card packs that can be purchased using in-game currency known as VC. This can be earned in-game, but due to the cost of card packs, you have to grind a lot of VC in order to make it worth your while. Individual cards can be purchased once they have been available for a certain amount of time, but even these can be costly; Roman Reigns ’24 Persona card is 160,500 VC alone.

However, Jinks has given hope that there may be an alternate method in store for players to unlock Persona cards, possibly at the end of the game’s lifecycle as a one-off payment. However, he made it clear that this isn’t featured in WWE 2K25.

I mean, that’s a good idea. It’s definitely not something that we have in this year’s game, but it’s definitely something that we should start looking at, if people feel like the game is too hard in order to unlock everything.

WWE 2K25 is pencilled in for release on March 14, 2025 on PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One. The game will feature Intergender matchups and the return of the chain wrestling mechanic, with Roman Reigns confirmed as the cover star for the Standard Edition while The Undertaker will grace the cover of the Deadman Edition.
