Nightdive Studios has given hope that System Shock 3′s situation could be clarified at some point in the near future, after news on the sequel went silent after spending a number of years in development at Otherside Entertainment.
While System Shock 3 later vanished from the public domain, Otherside published a statement on its officially website confirming that Tencent would be “taking the System Shock franchise forward,” and it was revealed that the game hadn’t been worked on at Otherside since 2019.
While System Shock 3 remains in limbo, Nightdive Studios has since taken over the reins of the first two entries in the much-loved franchise, with System Shock Remake now available and System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster scheduled to arrive in June.

Larry Kuperman, Director of Business Development for Nightdive Studios, was asked about System Shock 3 at the Game Developers Conference this week. Here’s what he had to say:
The situation around System Shock 3 is very complicated. Not as yet, not as yet. I don’t know when it’s going to clarify, but it could potentially be within a year. It could be, or it could take longer. That said, what I can say is that we have visions of what we can do within what we control.
System Shock 3 was announced back in March 2017 at which point the game was confirmed to be published by Starbreeze Studios.
