Square Enix lost first Kingdom Hearts game’s data, had to ‘recreate everything’ for HD 1.5 Remix

In an E3 2013 interview, Kingdom Hearts director Tetsuya Nomura revealed that the original data for the first Kingdom Hearts game was lost and thus had to be recreated for the upcoming Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix remaster collection.

"Kingdom Hearts 1 was created a long, long time ago, so actually the original data was lost," explained Nomura. "So, we had to research and we had to dig out from the actual games available, and recreate everything for HD. We had to recreate graphics, and it was actually not that easy."

Keep your fingers crossed that it doesn’t have an impact on your Kingdom Hearts nostalgia. From footage released, it’s doubtful anyone suspected Nomura and his crew recreated everything for the HD 1.5 Remix.
