It looks as though we may have the release date window for Insomniac Games’ upcoming open-world Spider-Man title, that is if Vice President & Executive Editor of Marvel’s Digital Media Group, Ryan Penagos, is to be believed.
Speaking on ‘THWIP! The Big Marvel Show’, Penagos, who is also working on the game in some capacity, offhandedly mentioned that Spider-Man PS4 was one of the things fans could look out for in 2017.
It’s a surprising revelation, as many expected Spider-Man’s release date to land sometime in 2018 especially considering the fact that its official reveal only came at E3 2016. That said, bar some smaller titles/reworkings like the remake of Ratchet & Clank and Song of the Deep, Insomniac Games’ hasn’t worked on a major title since Xbox One-exclusive Sunset Overdrive so anything’s possible in terms of turnaround.

Also, it’s worth bearing in mind that the upcoming film reboot of Spider-Man (entitled: Homecoming), starring Tom Holland, is set to release on July 7. And although we’d suspect that if Spider-Man PS4 is releasing in 2017 that it’ll be towards the end of the year, it’d make sense for Marvel to want the game and film to mutually benefit each other even if they’re not directly related.
Spider-man PS4 release date set for this year
If true, it means that 2017 is going to continue its momentum from the beginning of the year and doubly so if the Days Gone release date turns out to be true also. The only issue is trying to find time in the day.
As ever stay tuned to PSU for any confirmation that may come, though we’d expect to see something a bit more concrete regarding the Spider-Man PS4 release date at this year’s E3.
