Sony To Discontinue All But One PS4 Model In Japan

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced plans to discontinue all but one PS4 model in Japan, with production lines instead to be used for manufacturing the newly-launched PS5. This follows news from yesterday that Sony was looking to pull the plug on production of its last-generation console.

All PS4 Slim (CUH-2000 series) aside from the 500GB Jet Black model and the PlayStation Pro 4 (CUH-7000 series) have ended. The original PS4 model, which launched in February 2014 in Japan, has already ceased production.

The PS4 launched in the US and UK in November 2013 and has sold over 110 million units worldwide, making it Sony’s second best-selling console of all time behind the PS2. Despite the launch of the PS5, Sony has said it will continue to support the PS4 for another three-four years yet.
