The mantra that you shouldn’t believe everything you see online is one that many of us grew up with, and it’s worth remembering that it’s a rule that applies beyond just places like social media. It even extends to digital storefronts for video games.
Many players are well aware of this fact, and have been cautious of games that look like they might be “slop,” “shovelware,” or “spam” products. A recent report from IGN detailed a whole investigation into the games that make their way onto digital storefronts, but shouldn’t.
Since that report, players have noticed some of the games that would fit the description of being a ‘spam’ game have been delisted from the PlayStation Store. Caught by TrueTrophies, a developer known as RandomSpin Games, who had gained a reputation for publishing ‘spam’ games, has had nearly its whole catalogue delisted.
For now, RandomSpin seems to be the most notable developer impacted by PlayStation cleaning up the store, though hopefully we start to see a more concerned effort from Sony moving forward.
Of course, there’s no way to know if Sony took action due to the recent IGN report, though the timing does seem to support that.
Before Sony caught up to them, RandomSpin had released dozens of games over the course of last year, even multiple titles in the same month.
