Sony has detailed on their PlayStation Support page how PS4 save data will transfer to PS5 via backwards compatibility. But, that post fails to mention any kind of information about how PS4 to PS5 game save transfers will work, given that many games will not allow you to take your saves with you when you upgrade from a PS4 copy to a PS5 one.

In a new blog post detailing features about the PS5, Sony mention that PS4 game saves can be transferred to PS5 for a backwards-compatible title by a local WiFi connection or by going to your library on PS5 and downloading the PS4 title you want to play and transfer your save via the Cloud, providing you are a PlayStation Plus member.

However, this blog post doesn’t mention anything about PS4 games with free PS5 upgrades and whether or not that save data will carry over, given that most of them are a separate application on PlayStation 5. Your save data won’t carry over in Yakuza: Like A Dragon and most of it will also not carry over in DiRT 5. So, right now we don’t have a great idea as to if save data is transferable. Given that we are only a month away from release Sony needs to clear this up sooner rather than later.

The PS5 releases on November 12, 2020, in the US and November 19, 2020, in the UK and EU.
