Some PS5 30th Anniversary Edition Preorders Are Being Cancelled By Major UK Retailer

UK retail giant Argos is cancelled a number of preorders for the PS5 PlayStation 30th Anniversary Edition model, despite customers having preordered while stock was readily available.

A number of customers have taken to X to vent their frustrations at Argos, which started sending out emails earlier today informing a number of buyers that their preorder had been cancelled. No official statement has been made by the retailer, but a support worker reportedly told one customer that Argos had to make a “mass cancellation” of preorders for console. The email reads as follows:

We’re very sorry to inform you that we’re unable to fulfil your PS5 30th Anniversary Edition pre-order. We will automatically process a refund back to your original payment method Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience this has caused.

Sony announced its special range of PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection hardware last month, which includes both accessories and console branded in a special anniversary colour scheme that mimics the PSOne design. Preorders went live in late September, but understandably were quickly snapped up due to limited supply.

Beyond the 30th Anniversary Limited Edition release, Sony is also gearing up for the launch of the PS5 Pro on November 7, 2024, which is a more powerful version of the existing PS5 and comes with a price tag of $699.99/£699.99. Despite this, the console has proven popular as preorders quickly sold out to the point that PS5 Pro became the best-selling console on Amazon in multiple regions including the US.
