The original SMITE released all the way back in 2014, which might not feel like that long ago, but as of this year is officially a decade ago.
Months before the 10 year anniversary of the original’s release, developer Titan Forge Games has revealed a full-blown sequel with SMITE 2.
Titan Forge gave a keynote presentation during which SMITE 2 was revealed, along with an announcement trailer you can see below.
Thankfully this reveal trailer isn’t just a CG cinematic, but includes more than a few good shots of gameplay.
Even still, right when the trailer ends, Titan Forge is quick to answer the question players have whenever a live service game announces a sequel.
“What’s ‘2’ worthy you ask?” began executive producer Alex Cantatore. “This isn’t just a slightly larger than normal season. It’s not a balance pass that we’re calling a sequel.
SMITE 2 is the next generation of cross-platform, third person MOBA’s. This is a true sequel to SMITE, full modernized, and rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5.”
Cantatore and other members of the Titan Forge team continue to dive into SMITE 2 across the keynote, and show off more gameplay, which you can see below.
Fans can also sign up for a Closed Alpha currently planned to take place in Spring 2024. You can register at SMITE 2’s official website here.
