The Great Colored Carp is an optional puzzle boss in the Fountainhead Palace area of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. It can be found and killed once you have progressed through around two-thirds of the level.
You don’t have to kill it through combat; instead, you have to have a few specific items and do a few specific actions to kill it. This guide will show you how to slay the monstrous creature.
Great Colored Carp Boss Guide
Before we do anything else, you need to head to the Hirata Estate and purchase the Mask Fragment from Pot Noble Harunaga. Head to the first Idol and jump into the water. Swim to the little island on your right and talk to the creature in the Pot. Once you have done this, hit the ‘Talk’ option a couple of times to get the Truly Precious Bait.
Now, you want to progress through the Fountainhead Palace area until you reach the Great Sakura Idol. Kill the mini-boss on the tree and jump into the water. You will want to swim along the left side until you find an opening underwater.
Head through the opening and you will find the Great Carp. We can’t kill it right now; Instead, you want to head through this passageway and into the building at the opposite end. Once you reach the top of this area interact with the Sculptor’s Idol.
From there, head through the building and out of the entrance on the right. Do a U-turn and grapple to the roof of the building you were just in. To do this you want to be facing the Idol. On your left, you will find a branch you can grapple to.
If you look below you, you can find a rooftop that you can jump and grapple to. From there, jump and grapple to the rooftop ahead. Now, kill the enemy on the roof and drop down. You will see a Sculptor’s Idol down here.
If you speak to the man, he will tell you that you need to ring the bell to feed the Carp. Now, ring the bell next to him and choose ‘Select Truly Precious Bait’ then ‘Pot Noble Harunaga’s Bait’. This will feed the Carp the poisonous bait.
The next thing you want to do is head to the Guardian Ape’s Watering Hole in the Sunken Valley. When you spawn in, you will see the giant carp laying there on the ground. Next to him, you can pick-up the Great White Whisker.
From there, head back to Pot Noble Harunaga in the Hirata Estate. You will see that he has turned into a Carp. Next to him, you can collect a Lapis Lazuli. This is a high-end upgrade material for Prosthetic Tools.
Finally, head back to the Feeding Grounds Idol in the Fountainhead Palace. Speak to the man and give him the Great White Whisker to inform him that his Master is dead. You will get a Divine Grass in return.
