SEGA’s The Ocean Hunter Is Being Revived In Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii

Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii will feature classic SEGA title The Ocean Hunter as a playable arcade game, which marks its first appearance on a home console.

If you’re not familiar with the Like A Dragon/Yakuza franchise, the games have long featured a host of playable arcade games for gamers to experience, usually found by popping down to the local arcade in Kamurocho. Over the years we’ve seen the likes of Out Run, Space Harrier, Virtua Fighter 2 and many more featured, and in the case of spinoff Lost Judgment, the player has accessed to a Master System with eight playable titles.

In regards to The Ocean Hunter, Yutaka Ito, Technical Director at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, stated on X that bringing the game over proved a “very difficult task that required the cooperation of many people.”

The Ocean Hunter was released in 1998 and was only available in arcades, unlike many other Sega titles of that era which did receive console ports (The House of the Dead being a popular example). The game sees players hunting down colossal sea beasts in order to collect the bounties on their heads for attacking ships.

Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii is scheduled for release on February 21, 2025 for PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.
