Scott Miller, the producer on Max Payne and founder of 3D Realms, has touched on the disastrous 2008 movie adaptation of the Remedy shooter, saying that while it was a major disappointment for him, he feels Hollywood could get it right if they tried again.
Miller took to X to post his thoughts on the Max Payne movie 16 years after its release, which saw Mark Wahlberg in the title role in a plot that deviated considerably from the source material.
When the Max Payne film was released and I saw it day one in 2008, I was instantly disappointed and super upset. The story had changed dramatically from the original script we sold to FOX. The issue was that the film’s director revised the script such that it no longer resembled the game’s story.

I think current Hollywood has reached a point of getting things right more often than not, so they’d likely be able to do Max Payne right if they tried again (trust me, go back to the original script). And brought in people like me and Sam Lake as consultants.
While there’s no new Max Payne movie on the horizon that we know of, Remedy is currently developing remakes of Max Payne 1 & 2, giving fans and newcomers alike a chance to dive back into the series again.
