Resident Evil was originally released in 1996 for the PSOne and brought survival horror to mainstream audiences, after Alone in the Dark effectively introduced the genre in the early 90s. Capcom has already remade the game once before for Nintendo GameCube in 2002, which retained the pre-rendered backgrounds but greatly improved the visuals and introduced the new Crimson Head zombie variants.

This remake was later re-released in 2015 for PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC, complete with high-resolution graphics and a modernised control scheme. You can read our review here.

Meanwhile, series tipster Dusk Golem recently claimed that Resident Evil 9 is likely to be announced soon and will launch in early 2025.
