Sony obviously hans’t announced anything about a new portable device to accompany its next-generation console, but it is believed to be powered by AMD technology like the PS6. Crucially, the portable unit is expected to be less powerful than the PS5, but is reportedly above the Xbox Series S in terms of performance.

While on the subject of the PS6, Shuhei Yoshida, the former head of PlayStation’s indie division, has said that a 2028 release window for the console ‘feels right,‘ while Shawn Layden has predicted the new machine won’t eschew physical media entirely. As previously reported, Sony and AMD have partnered for Project Amethyst, with the PS6 heavily rumoured to utilise the chip manufacturer’s 3D stacked chips.

The PS5 was released in November 2020 and is currently available as the PS5 Slim (disc and digital-only editions) and the PS5 Pro, which greatly enhances overall performance with improved ray tracing and frame rates.
