Rumour — GTA Online Will Be A Standalone Release Sold Independently From GTA VI At Launch

Noted Rockstar Games insider Tez2 has claimed that the Grand Theft Auto Online will be sold independently of the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI on release.

Speaking on the GTAForums in regard to the price of GTA VI, which has been a hot topic lately after it was suggested it may cost $100, the tipster claimed that the upcoming crime romp will be the first game from Rockstar that will sell the online component separately at launch. He also said that one edition will include both the single-player and online components in a single package. We’re also hoping to see the return of the online casino in the game.

T2 could benefit by pricing the online standalone lower, making it accessible for those who can’t afford the $70 or $80 price. Eventually, those players will upgrade to access the story mode, so that’s a win-win for them. This also opens an opportunity, some players may be eager to access the story mode but can’t afford the upgrade price too. That’s when they could slide in GTA+, and offer Game Pass-like access. They’ll net extra profits from players who keep subscribing instead of saving for the upgrade. Another win-win for T2.

While we’re on the subject of Grand Theft Auto VI, a former Rockstar Games artist recently stated that he feels the game won’t run at 60 FPS on consoles, at least not on release. Instead, Rockstar will probably aim for a capped 30 FPS, while PC is your best bet at having the game run at 60 FPS, although PS5 Pro has a chance down the line.

Grand Theft Auto IV is currently in production for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S with a release date scheduled for Fall 2025.
