Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster – how to beat the Proto-Tyrant

Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster is now out in the wild, and you should probably get prepared for facing up against one of its biggest, meanest bosses—the Proto-Tyrant. Fortunately, PSU has got you covered with this handy guide on how to combat the hulking T-Virus monstrosity and come out unscathed.

First and foremost, this strategy applies to both encounters with this towering terror. Proto-Tryant ambushes you first in the entrance to Umbrella’s laboratory near the factory, although in this instance you will be playing as Rebecca alone. The second battle takes place in the sewage disposal facility, and you can if you wish take two characters with you—however, due to the restricting nature of the room you fight in, it isn’t recommended.

Proto-Tyrant may seem slow at first, although don’t let its lumbering appearance deceive you; he can and will execute sudden bursts of speed when attacking, clobbering you with his gigantic claw if you aren’t quick to avoid him. The key thing to note is when the creature stops and squats down; that’s a sign he’s about to leap forward in a clawed swipe. At this point, you’ll want to run past the tyrant on the opposite side of the clawed appendage, allowing you to safely avoid the attack, sending him flying past you and missing its target. At this point, turn around and fire into the creature’s back as he’s recovering from the attack. Use either the Magnum, or failing, that the Shotgun.

Once the creature regains his footing, make sure you are a safe distance away, before repeating the process. The key is to bait the tyrant into leaping at you, which will only happen if you are outside of striking distance; anything else will result in him slashing you with his claw, dealing massive damage. Keep baiting, dodging, and shooting your enemy in the back, and eventually he’ll go down. It’ll take around 6-8 Magnum bullets to dispatch the creature, and around 10-13 Shotgun shells, depending on how close you are.

Also, do not attempt to shoot the Tyrant in the chest or when he’s facing you; it won’t cause much damage, and will be a waste of ammo. In addition, don’t fire multiple times when you score a hit in his back, as the creature is immune to damage while it recovers. The second encounter is slightly tougher as the area you fight is more confined, although the same strategy remains in tact; bait, dodge, and shoot. Never attempt to run by your opponent on the same side as his claw, as you’ll just take a battering if you do. It’s also recommended you take Billy this time around, so you can take more damage in case things go south.
