Capcom has announced a Resident Evil Revelations release date of August 31, 2017 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The current-generation edition of the survival horror game will come packaged with all the Raid Mode content, specifically costumes and weapons, plus a fresh coat of high-definition paint that “allow for crisp 1080p resolution. Increased environmental detail and refined creature movements add a whole new dimension to the terror.”

The game follows Capcom’s efforts to bring all major titles to PS4 and Xbox One in light of the series 20th anniversary, following ports of Resident Evil Remake, Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil CODE: Veronica X, and Resident Evil 4, 5, and 6.

Resident Evil Revelations was originally released on the 3DS in early 2012 before being ported to the PS3, PC, Xbox 360, and Wii U in 2013. The game takes place between the events of Resi 4 and 5, and sees Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine exploring a spooky cruise liner while battling against various creatures infected with the deadly T-Abyss Virus.

The game is noted for returning to the series’ horror roots, placing a greater emphasis on puzzle solving and ammunition conservation in contrast to the more action-oriented antics of recent games prior to Resi 7. Revelations’ success lead to a full-blown sequel in 2015 with the episodic Resident Evil Revelations 2, which reunited players with Barry Burton and Claire Redfield.

Looking ahead, Capcom still has two major DLC releases in store for the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 7: biohazard, and is currently working on a full-blown remake of 1998’s seminal Resident Evil 2. Quite when we’ll catch our first glimpse of that remains to be seen, although it’s been in the works for almost two years now.
