Capcom News PS4 Resident Evil Resident Evil 3 Resident Evil Resistance

Resident Evil Resistance Is Not Canon, Says Capcom

Capcom has clarified that the upcoming multiplayer spin-off Resident Evil Resistance is not canon, despite it taking place within Raccoon City during the T-Virus outbreak. The game is being released alongside the upcoming of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, sadly at the expense of the Mercenaries mini-game.

Resident Evil Resistance Not Canon

Speaking with Official PlayStation Magazine, Capcom’s Peter Fabiano revealed that Resident Evil Resistance is “basically set in Raccoon City with scenarios that make it impossible to fit in the actual timeline.”

He added that the game should be seen a “a fun online experience with connections to the RE Universe” where you’ll “see familiar enemies and characters like Mastermind.”

You’ll remember that the Japanese subtitle for RE3 was Last Escape. Both of these titles have characters that are trying to escape somewhere or something, so thematically it made sense. We also wanted to take up the challenge of building out an online game set in the RE universe.

Resident Evil Resistance sees groups of survivors attempting to escape a series of rooms packed with puzzles and blood-thirsty T-Virus creatures, all of which can be manipulated by a mysterious chap known as the Mastermind.

Here’s the full blurb:

Capcom’s Resident Evil Resistance is a new 1 vs. 4 asymmetric online survival horror experience set in the world of Resident Evil, and part of the Resident Evil 3 package. Unleash your inner evil as a cunning Mastermind or join the fight as one of the resourceful Survivors desperately trying to escape every obstacle the Mastermind puts in their way!

Capcom will launch the Resident Evil 3 remake on April 3 for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. The game takes place during the Raccoon City zombie outbreak of fall 1998, and is set 24 hours before and after Resident Evil 2.

Players control former S.T.A.R.S. agent Jill Valentine as she attempts to escape the city, and teams up with Carlos Oliveira, a member of Umbrella’s Countermeasure Service, while being stalked by the seemingly indestructible Nemesis.
