red dead redemption 2 how to get perfect pelts

To get the perfect pelts in Red Dead Redemption 2 requires skill. However, it also involves knowing which animals create the best pelts. In the following guide, we’ll show you how to get Perfect Pelts, which are much better for crafting and selling.

With animal pelts you can create better clothing for Arthur Morgan, so it pays to keep them in pristine condition. Check this guide if you want to find out how to sell pelts, or continue to discover the best method for getting flawless pelts.

Each animal in Red Dead Redemption 2, including legendary animals, have some stats assigned to them. This will tell you the quality of the pelt. When you spot an animal, point at it or use your binoculars to zoom in and then press R1 and RB to find out more.

There’s a 3-star rating assigned to each animal which tells you the quality. To get a Perfect pelt, you want to be hunting down those with three stars only. Note: you’ll still get a good quality pelt from a 2-star animal and a bad one from a 1-star creature.

Once you’ve got your Perfect Pelt, you can then sell them for cash to the Trapper or use them to upgrade stuff. You can, of course, also donate them to Pearson at the Van Der Linde camp.

The first trapper can be found once you’ve reached Chapter 4. You’ll see his shop spring up in Saint Denis. Once you’ve unlocked the Legendary Animal map, keep an eye out for these locations and bag yourself a high-quality pelt from the rarest animals!
