Twenty eleven was just as big for sequels as it was for shooters. We’ve seen some massive shooters hit this year, and save for RAGE, all of the nominees are sequels. And evidently, that’s not a bad thing, as all of the nominees offer enough heart-stopping action both in single and multi-player to last a year. One of them even brought on the biggest entertainment launch of all time—can you guess which?
The nominees for Best Shooter Game of 2011 are:
Killzone 3: Developer: Guerilla Games | Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Developer: Infinity Ward / Sledgehammer Games | Publisher: Activision
Battlefield 3: Developer: DICE | Publisher: EA
Resistance 3: Developer: Insomniac | Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
RAGE: Developer: id Software | Publisher: Bethesda
…and the winner is:
Battlefield 3 – with 34 out of 76 community votes
What can we say about DICE’s attempt to take the reins of first-person shooter genre, that hasn’t been said already? We loved the breathtaking visuals and production value in this blockbuster, as well as the hefty multiplayer component. Let’s face it—you’re either for Battlefield, or against it, which would put you on the Call of Duty boat. Fanboy-ism aside, there’s no denying that Battlefield 3 has made its mark on the shooter genre this year. DICE raised the bar for what first-person shooters can look like, and we’ve yet to see another game try to outmatch BF3 in both picture and sound. Resistance 3, RAGE, and Modern Warfare 3 also had a hand in making this one of the years for shooters ever, but you’ve chosen Battlefield 3 as the king.
We would like to congratulate the team behind Battlefield 3 for creating the best Shooter game in 2011 as voted by the PSU community.
