Elsewhere, Piscatella revealed that the digital-only versions of PS5 account for 50% of hardware sales year-to-date, while on the accessory front, the PS5 DualSense Wireless Controller Midnight Black was the big winner in terms of consumer spending during March 2025. In third place is the DualSense Edge Midnight Black, followed by the Midnight Black version of the PlayStation Portal.

The PS5 launched in November 2020 and has since been reissued as a Slim version for both the digital and disc-based versions of the system, as well as the more powerful PS5 Pro model. Sony announced earlier this year that the console has shipped 75 million units worldwide.

Rumours have been gathering pace about the PS6 over the last year or so, and it is widely reported the console will utilise AMD technology, specifically its UNDA GPU architecture with either a Zen 4 or 5-era CPU. This was further solidified with the announcement of a partnership between the chip manufacturer and Sony known as Project Amethyst, which looks to define next-generation hardware.
