PS5 Pro Update Workflow Is ‘Very Developer Friendly’ Even For A Small Studio, Says Dev

Speaking on ResetEra, an anonymous developer using the handle ‘Koralsky’ has revealed that they are working on two games with native PS5 Pro support, and that the workflow update for Sony’s high-end machine is ‘very developer friendly,’ even for smaller companies.

The update workflow for the new console is very development friendly – even for a very small studio like us,. Also, even without native support our game was running MUCH better as we are using DRS and unlocked FPS (up to 120). So I am expecting excellent results in every PS5 game using DRS and/or targeting 60 FPS or more.

I am exploring the idea to add options for choosing between TSR or PSSR. Right now, I am changing between both with a push of a button in runtime and it’s quite interesting to see the differences between both on the same hardware configuration. Both are quite impressive, but there’s IQ stuff where PSSR is clearly better.

The PS5 Pro is scheduled for release on November 7, 2024 priced at $699.99/£699.99. The console packs a greater punch when it comes to technical innards, and utilises PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which is Sony’s new upscaling tech that uses AI to enhance the performance of software.

Another major feature of Sony’s new system is the PS5 Pro Enhanced label, which offers increased frame rates and increased visual fidelity for compatible games.
