PS4 troubleshooting: How to fix auto-eject loop

I was in immediate apprehension when the other morning my PlayStation 4 ejected Dragon Age: Inquisition mid-game, and the day worsened when my PS4 wouldn’t accept the disc back. What made matters worse was the constant ejecting that my expensive piece of hardware kept attempting, and the issue carried over even after a standard shutdown.

If you’re there now or end up there in the future, know that there is a possible fast and cost-free fix for it; leaving the disclaimer that there could be an actual flaw in the hardware.

If I had to guess at what happens, I’d say that the software gets caught in a loop. Looking back, there were also some signs that now will warn me of its recurrence: When I manually attempted to eject the game from my console after turning it on, the PS4 didn’t respond at all. Like any standard user, I attempted a few more times, all with equal results. Since Dragon Age was already in the console, I went with it; and five minutes later, my game was spontaneously ejected, and the scenario detailed above began.

Remember: Performing a standard restart will not fix this issue.

The loop I mentioned before seems to get locked into the software when this occurs, and the option to fix it is to completely power down the console AND remove all the cords. For those of you who haven’t done this before, the console will beep when the power cord has been removed. From here, press and hold the power button on the front for ten seconds or so to completely drain the remaining power in the system (PC gamers should be familiar with this process).

After that, simply plug it all back in and get back to gaming. Now, if this doesn’t fix the issue, then there could be a greater underlying problem with the console itself, as I highlighted with the disclaimer at the top of the article. If this fix does not help the issue, do reach out to Sony Customer Service and let them help you figure out what’s really going on.
