Sony Computer Entertainment’s President of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, has taken to Twitter today to clarify details on the PlayStation 4’s Remote Play connectivity options with the PlayStation Vita.
Yoshida-san was responding to concerns about limits to Remote Play, due to an entry on the recent PS4 ultimate FAQ which reads:
"Remote Play will work best when the PS Vita system is located within the same WiFi network where PS4 is connected. We also recommend that PS4 be connected to the local area network via an Ethernet cable, that a router suitable for gaming be used and that the PS Vita system be within close proximity of the WiFi access point."
Gamers were keen to have some points from the FAQ cleared up, and Yoshida-san was firstly asked, " If my internet connection is down, but my router is still up and both PS4 and Vita are connected, can I still use Remote Play? "
He replied, "Once you had registered them, yes. And even if the router is down, too." Yoshida-san then confirmed gamers will have a connection choice too adding, " you can choose the best connection. "
Next a curious Tweeter asked, "So there is a direct connect to the system ala remote play on the ps3? Neat." Yoshida-san then replied, "yes, you can choose."
It seems the executive is now stating there are three ways a PS4 and Vita can connect: directly when near a PS4 console, then via a local Wi-Fi network, and finally public Wi-Fi.
How far the Remote Play connection will stretch is sure to be tested as soon as the PS4 is launched. Still, this is great news for gamers who might have been concerned about limits to Remote Play.
