PS4 Communities Feature Is Officially Being Axed By Sony In April

Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed it is bringing the axe down on the PS4 Communities feature in April 2021, having emailed console owners over the weekend about its plans to discontinue the feature.

PS4 Communities was previously hinted at as being given the chop via private invites for the PS4 beta update 8.50, which didn’t have the feature listed.

Sony launched PS4 Communities in September 2015 as part of PS4 firmware update 3.00, and was a way for gamers of similar interests to form parties and chat via a message board. However, the feature started winding down last year when PS4 update 8.00 removed the ability to create private Communities.

Here’s what the format holder said in the email:

Thank you for using the PS Communities feature on your PS4 console. Beginning in April 2021, this feature will no longer be supported or available on your PS4 console. However, you’ll still be able to stay connected and enjoy messaging features and more on your PS4 and the PlayStation App.
