PS4 almost selling more than PS3 and Xbox 360 combined, says this graph

Ah, we love a good graph! Well, check this one out, which comes from Niko Partners’ analyst Daniel Ahmad.
It lines up the launches of the PS3, Xbox 360 and PS4 to show unit shipments of each console.

PS4 software sales surpass 400 million

Obviously the PS3 and Xbox 360 have been around for way longer than PS4, so the graph takes into account the first 14 quarters of each console’s launch.

The results are surprising.

ps3 vs ps4 sales

While the PS3 reached 35.7 million units during this period, the Xbox 360 reached 30.2 million. Compare this to the PS4 shipments at 60 million, and it appears that the PS4 has sold pratically the same as PS3 and Xbox 360 combined.

Note: The graph is in no way official, but nevertheless it’s fairly staggering to see the difference in this console generation. Now we just need someone to whack down those Xbox One figures on the graph and we’ll have an even better picture – if Microsoft ever plans on releasing them.

What we do know is that PS4 is apparently beating Xbox One sales by 3:1 in Europe, and has regularly become the best-selling console in the U.S. on a monthly basis betweent the two. Whether the arrival of Xbox One X, Microsoft’s fantastic looking Xbox upgrade can turn that around when it launches at the end of the year remains to be seen.
