Konami has officially announced eFootball, the game previously known as PES 2022, for release on PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One in Fall 2021.

In a major step forward for the franchise, eFootball will be completely free-to-play. eFootball will be powered by a new game engine, and features a new technology known as Motion Matching that “converts the vast range of movements that players make on the pitch into a series of animations, selecting the most accurate one in real-time.”

Furthermore, Konami confirmed that eFootball will support new content and game modes post-launch, and unlike previous entries, this latest instalment is going to be a digital-only game. On release date, local matches including FC Barcelona, Juventus, FC Bayern, Manchester United will be available to players free of charge.

eFootball’s producer, Seitaro Kimura, commented:

Starting with the strong foundations of Unreal® Engine, which has allowed us to massively overhaul player expression, we’ve made a number of modifications to virtually create a new football game engine that will power eFootball™ for years to come.

With the added power of new-generation consoles and by working closely with elite footballers, eFootball™ delivers our most tense and realistic gameplay to date. We’ll share specific gameplay details next month, so stay tuned.
