New Sony Patent Details ‘Game Cartridge’ Device, But Is It Related To PS5?

Sony has filed a new trademark with the US Patent and Trademarks Office, suggesting that the hardware manufacturer is working on cartridge-like device, possibly for the upcoming PS5.

The console will of course utilise a Blu-ray drive and support digital downloads, so quite what this cartridge would be used for remains to be seen.

PS5 Cartridge Hinted At In New Sony Patent Filing

This isn’t the first time tSony has indicated it plans on using a cartridge for the PS5. Last year, a patent was unearthed that Sony later revealed was a storage medium that was not in anyway related to its next-generation console. This may be the case again, but we’ll have to wait and see.

One thing to note however is that this latest patent filing specifically mentions “game cartridge” in the description. Again, this may not even pertain to PS5, as there’s other avenues it could be used for by Sony outside of gaming consoles.

The PS5 is currently slated for release in holiday 2020.
