New Need For Speed Reportedly Features Meetups, Character Design Inspired By The Boondocks TV Series

EA’s upcoming Need for Speed game will reportedly feature a new Meetups feature, allowing players to hook up across the map and kick off races.

According to Tom Henderson’s sources, the tracks featured on the map are “unique” and there’s also reportedly a large train speeding across the map while you’re racing. Meanwhile, Henderson touched on the game’s rumoured title, Need for Speed: Unbound, which he couldn’t 100% confirm as being the final name.

Regarding the game’s visuals, which are rumoured to combine photorealism with an anime aesthetic (as per Jeff Grubb), Henderson said that his sources have also heard as much, and that the characters are reportedly designed similar to The Boondocks TV series.

Grubb also previously spoke about cars featuring a car commercial-style aesthetic, with “cartoon flames and stuff dying off it.” Henderson’s own sources have confirmed this is indeed the case, with vehicles sporting smoke, wind, and fire coming off them when going fast or drifting.

As previously reported, Henderson has said that Need for Speed will be announced next month alongside the new Skate and FIFA games.

Back in May, it was revealed that Criterion Games and Codemasters Cheshire had merged to spearhead future Need for Speed games.
