Destiny 2 Info Coming June 6, Bungie Teases The Next Chapter

Destiny 2 To Become Free-To-Play With Paid Expansions

Bungie has revealed that Destiny 2 fans can expect fresh details on the next chapter of the shared-world shooter to drop next week. By next chapter, it’s referring to the fact the former Halo developer is no longer shackled by publisher Activision, and its content roadmap from here on out is Bungie going it alone with full control over the IP.

Destiny 2’s Next Chapter Teased For Reveal

Bungie will unveil new details on Destiny 2’s next chapter on Thursday, June 6 at 6.00pm GMT. And, well, that’s about all we know so far. It’s before E3, so at least that’s something. Last year, you may recall that Bungie unveiled Forsaken, the game’s massive expansion that introduced a wealth of new content, including a fresh campaign that saw Guardians tracking down Cayde-6’s killer.

Destiny 2 Season of Opulence is the next major update for the Engram-farming shooter, which comes with a brand new raid and various other content over the next few months. Beyond that though, Bungie has already teased a new era for Destiny 2 is on the horizon.

“But after the Season has launched and Raid belts have been awarded, we’ll be looking deeper into the future, and sharing with you more about a new era for Bungie and Destiny 2,” said the company.

Bungie announced it had split from Activision back in January, bringing an end to a planned 10-year partnership. The company is now in full control of the Destiny franchise, so it’ll be interesting to see what it has planned.

Destiny launched in 2014 for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360, and was supported for three years with multiple expansions. Destiny 2 followed in 2017 and has received plenty of post-launch content, so presumably Bungie will continue doing this for at least another year.

Rumours of Destiny 3 have already been doing the rounds for a while, with the game expected to ship in fall 2020.
