MLB The Show 25 has been revealed, with three cover athletes adorning this year’s game cover as part of the series celebrating its 20th anniversary.
We’ve also got the confirmation that MLB The Show 25 will be available on PS5 this coming March 18, 2025.
In regards to the three cover athletes, San Diego Studio has gone with three MLB players who are young up-and-comers in the league, with Paul Skenes from the Pittsburg Pirates, Elly De La Cruz from the Cincinnati Reds, and Gunnar Henderson from the Baltimore Orioles.
Interestingly, while it’ll still be launching on multiple platforms as the series has since MLB The Show 21, San Diego Studio stipulates that this time, it will “not be on platform subscription services in 2025.” Which means Xbox players won’t be able to just download it on Xbox Game Pass when it launches this coming March.
They’ll have to wait until sometime in 2026, by which point there will be a new MLB The Show incoming for the new year.
San Diego Studio doesn’t get into the ‘why’ behind the decision, but it’s easy enough to guess that while the switch from being a PlayStation exclusive to a multi-platform title bolstered sales, the day-one inclusion on Xbox Game Pass didn’t exactly help game sales on the team green platform.
That’s just speculation, but it’s an interesting switch to note after the last few years have all launched day-one on Game Pass.
