Sony could be working on a MediEvil 2 remake, according to a few cryptic tweets from Andrew Barnabas, the composer for the much-loved franchise.
Rumor – MediEvil 2 Remake Incoming?
Remember the SaveMediEvil twitter account? Well, this was a massive factor in getting the remake of the first game off the ground, and unsurprisingly has since shifted its attention to campaigning for a remake of the second game. On February 2, the account posted a ‘2′ without any further context, and was followed by a few interesting tweets from Barnabas.
One fan responded to the ‘2′ tweet with “Medieval remake didn’t do very well, so I doubt we’ll see the remake two!” In response, Barnabas replied, “I’m sorry you are incorrect.” He also tweeted “Actually” in response to the ‘2.’
Add all this up, and it sounds like a MediEvil 2 remake could be on the cards. Then again, Barnabas simply could be saying the user is incorrect stating that the original MediEvil didn’t sell well (the Twitter account claims the game moved around 400,000 copies).
Other Ocean developed the MediEvil remake for the PS4, which came out last year. Prior to that, the franchise had been on ice for over a decade, so its comeback was a pretty big deal.
At this point, if a MediEvil 2 remake does happen, then there’s a good chance it will come out for the PlayStation 5.
The original game was developed by SCE Cambridge Studio, and won plaudits for its compelling marriage of hack-‘n-slash gameplay and spooky aesthetic. This has been preserved for the remake, although there’s obviously a major increase in graphical fidelity — MediEvil is nearly 22-years-old, after all.
MediEvil sees players taking on the role of Sir Daniel Fortesque, an undead knight tasked with overthrowing the nefarious Zarok, who is hell-bent on taking over the Kingdom of Gallowmere. Concurrently, Danny is also seeking redemption for himself, so he’s got his bony hands full.
