Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Objectives Guide – Complete all Challenges

kingdom hearts 0.2 objectives guide

Throughout Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage- there are many objectives you can complete to unlock new wardrobe items for Aqua. There are 51 objectives in total, though many of them can only be completed upon finishing the main game. Here’s a breakdown of how to easily unlock most of these objectives.

Note that some objectives that require more in-depth explanations may be outlined in separate guides. These will be linked as necessary below.

Each objective will be laid out the same way, as follows:
-Objective number: Objective; Location (if the location is Dark World, it can be completed anywhere throughout the game); Reward
-In-game description of objective
-Walkthrough for objective

01: Defeat the Shadows; Dark World; Figaro
Defeat 30 Shadows.
You will encounter many Shadows throughout your playthrough. You should complete this quickly and easily without much effort.

02: Defeat the Flutterings; Dark World; Coil (Pink)
Defeat 45 Flutterings.
Groups of Flutterings can be brought defeated quickly with a couple zaps of Thundaga. Blizzaga will freeze them and cause them to fall to the ground so you can strike and defeat them that way, too. Like with Shadows, you should complete this throughout the course of your playthrough.

03: Defeat the Flame Cores; Dark World; Cyber Antennae
Defeat 40 Flame Cores.
Flame Cores deal heavy damage, but go down easily with a couple blasts of Blizzaga. You’ll very likely unlock this before the credits roll as well.

04: Defeat the Neoshadows; Dark World; Antennae
Defeat 30 Neoshadows.
Neoshadows start showing up more frequently later in the game, so it might take a while longer to complete this objective, but it should still be easily finished before the end of the game.

05: Defeat the Water Cores; Dark World; Mecha (Blue)
Defeat 20 Water Cores.
When a Water Core surrounds itself in a bubble, it is impervious to attack. Blast it with Firaga to deal massive damage and make it susceptible to harm again. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, you should complete this easily by the end of the game.

06: Defeat the Earth Cores; Dark World; Classy (Yellow)
Defeat 20 Earth Cores.
Earth Cores have high defense, but surprisingly it doesn’t take much effort to fell one. They don’t appear until late in the game, but there are enough of them around that – you guessed it – you’ll still be able to wrap this one up before the game ends.

07: Test of Strength I; Dark World; Royal Pauldron
Raise Aqua to level 60.
Simple. Just beat up a bunch of Heartless. You’ll get there soon.

08: Test of Strength II; Dark World; Astral Ornament
Raise Aqua to level 70.
Beat up LOTS of Heartless. This is the first objective on the list you probably won’t finish before beating the game, but you can continue playing past the end to grind up to 70. Best to work your way through other objectives while striving for this and the next one, to reduce unnecessary grinding.

09: Test of Strength III; Dark World; Venus’s Tiara
Raise Aqua to level 80.
Just grind a lot. This gets pretty boring and takes some time since playing a new game with your completed save data doesn’t carry over your levels, but just keep at it. It’s actually a good idea to grind this on Critical Mode, as a way of preparing you for objective 51, but doing it on Beginner Mode is also a good way to prep for objective 42.

10: Master of Counters; Dark World; Flawless Wings
Defeat 5 Heartless using Counter Blast.
Just before an enemy attack hits you, press the square button to block. If you time it right, you will be prompted to counter-attack. Pull this off five times where the counter-attack is the killing blow, and you’re good as gold. While this is certainly doable against groups of enemies, a good tactic if you’re having trouble is to whittle away groups of enemies down to just one. Make sure its HP is low, then wait for it to make its move so you know you’ll get it.

11: Master of Fire; Dark World; Cyber Blades
Use fire-based magic to defeat 30 Heartless.

12: Master of Ice; Dark World; Blades
Use ice-based magic to defeat 30 Heartless.

13: Master of Lightning; Dark World; Mystic Pauldron
Use lightning-based magic to defeat 50 Heartless.
These three objectives are self-explanatory. Simply use your magic to fell your enemies. Eventually you’ll unlock all three easily.

14: Frozen Rail Ride; Dark World; Flawless Arm Guards
Use ice-based magic to create a rail, then ride the rail a long distance.
This is one of the easiest and fastest objectives to complete as soon as you enter Castle Town. You can theoretically complete it anywhere in the Dark World, since you need a nice, straight path that the ice can lay on unbreaking, the bath up from the castle is the best place to do it. As soon as you unlock the use of magic at the game’s beginning, shoot a Blizzaga blast directly ahead of you, then move forward. The blast will create an ice rail, and stepping onto it makes Aqua ride it. So long as you’ve got a path long, straight, and flat enough to last the length of distance Blizzaga can travel, Aqua will follow the icy rail to the end, and you’ll unlock the Flawless Arm Guards.

15: Ice Breaker; Dark World; Grace (Purple)
Freeze at least 5 Heartless and shatter 5 of them.
When you freeze an enemy using Blizzaga or Blizzaja, they only stay frozen for one hit. If that hit is the killing blow, they will shatter. The trick is to try getting a group of Shadows together and hitting them with Blizzaga. Once they’re frozen, quickly use either Thundaga or Shotlock (locking onto at least 5 of the frozen Heartless) to defeat them all at once, causing them to shatter. Blizzaga + Thundaga is probably the easier option of the two, but Blizzaga + Shotlock also works.

16: Magic Advantage; Dark World; Voltaic Arm Plate
Some Heartless are weak to certain types of magic. Use the right type to hit an enemy for extra damage.
Super easy. Just use one spell to hit (it doesn’t need to defeat them) an enemy that is weak to that element. Hit a Flame Core with Blizzaga or a Water Core with Firaga to complete this objective.

17: Fight and Flight; Dark World; Radiant Ornament
Defeat 5 Heartless while in midair.
Jump. Attack. Attack some more. You did it. Great job.

18: Excellent Aim; Dark World; Diamond (White)
Earn an Excellent rating 6 times in a row using Shotlock.
Please see our separate Kingdom Hearts 0.2 guide for how to earn Excellent ratings using Shotlock.

19: Stylish Moves; Dark World; Diamond (Green)
Use a Style Change to defeat 50 Heartless.
There are two Style Changes available in this game: Spellweaver and Wayfinder. Aqua can use Spellweaver on her own from early on, but Wayfinder is only available when teamed up with Mickey later on. Either way, simply activate the Situation Command for either of these Style Changes when prompted, and defeat 50 Heartless in total while in those modes.

20: A Fine Finish; Dark World; Classy (Blue)
Activate Spellweaver’s Finish command.
Another easy one. Once you have activated Spellweaver, continue attacking enemies until you see three arrows above your command menu in the lower left-hand corner. Another couple hits past that, and you’ll be prompted to hit the triangle button to activate Spellweaver’s Finish. Even if you completely miss all of your targets, activating it is all you need to do.

21: Wardrobe Weaver; Dark World; Ribbons
Equip an item in all wardrobe slots, then activate Spellweaver’s Finish command.
Exactly the same as the previous objective, but this time with the added flair of unlocked wardrobe items!

22: Trendsetter; Dark World; Mecha (Pink)
Equip an item in a wardrobe slot.
Super duper easy. As soon as you’ve unlocked any wardrobe item, just equip it for a moment. Done.

23: Streetlamp Striker; Castle Town; Grace (Blue)
Hit 20 streetlamps.
The only thing you need to pay attention to here is that you’re actually hitting the lamps, and not just the poles. You can lock onto both segments of the lamps, so be sure you’re actually jumping up and hitting the lamps on top. There are more than a couple dozen streetlamps scattered throughout Castle Town. Have at it!

24: Top of the Town; Castle Town; Wings
Climb to the highest point.

25: Starlit Wish; Castle Town; Arm Guards
Watch for a meteor shower.
Both of these can be completed at the same end-point. Check the video guide below to see how to reach the highest point in Castle Town from the save point. Note that when you look to the sky to see the meteor shower, it may not happen immediately like in the video. You might have watch that point for a few seconds.

26: Heartless That Dwell; The World Within; Mecha (Yellow)
Defeat all of the Heartless in the room.
In The World Within there are 7 mirrors lining the main area, each with a different puzzle to solve. Four of the mirrors all take Aqua to the same small room. One of those four is filled with treasure chests (see objective 28), but the remaining three hide waves of Heartless that you must fight. To complete this objective you must defeat all the Heartless in that room, throughout all three mirrors. The bottom-left mirror has an additional puzzle which must be solved first before the Heartless appear; see objective 27 directly after this for how to solve that!

27: Mystery Within; The World Within; Stitching
Solve the mystery of the World Within and win the battle.
If you’re looking at the area full of mirrors from the Save Point, the mirror you need to enter is the first one to your left; the bottom-left mirror on the map. When you enter it there are four candelabra in the room, all with lit candles. If you hit each group of candles to extinguish them, the room will get quite dark and you’ll be ambushed by a few waves of Heartless, including your first Neoshadows. Defeat them all and you’ll receive the Stitching pattern.

28: Treasure Within; The World Within; Arm Plate
Uncover the mystery of the World Within and obtain the special item.
You must go through the middle mirror on the right side of the map for this objective; it’s the one that shows many opened treasure chests inside it. If you look to the back, left side of the mirror, in front of a pillar you’ll see one closed chest. This is the only one that actually holds an item, and that’s the item you need to complete this objective. Enter the mirror, open that chest in back to obtain a Mega-Ether, and another one bites the dust.

29: Gem Gatherer; The World Within; Marie
Find the brightest of jewels in the mines where the Seven Dwarfs work.
Please see our separate guide to complete this objective.

30: Connected, The World Within, Lace (Crystal)
Discover the secret in the mirror tied to the mysterious rocks.
This one’s pretty simple. There are two rocks with gems in them that, when lined up properly, show a star. Take a look at the short video below to see how to do it.

31: Queen of the Rink; The World Within; Royal Tiara
Perform a spin during the fight with the Phantom Aqua.
You can complete this in any of the fights against Phantom Aqua, though it’s probably best to go for the third fight. She’s got greater HP than the first two fights, so you won’t defeat her before being able to pull this off. “Perform a spin” is a fancy way of saying “use the Spellweaver Finish command,” so just do that. Fight Phantom Aqua until you can use Spellweaver, then hit her enough more times that you can use the Finish command.

32: Defeat the Darkness; Forest of Thorns; Diamond (Blue)
Defeat 3 Darksides that stand in Aqua’s way.
This one’s extremely easy, and you might even complete it without realizing it’s an objective. The first two Darksides are directly on your path to proceed, while the third is just off on a short side path. If you’re the kind of person who likes to explore your surroundings, it’s super easy to find. Check out the video below if you’re having trouble.

33: Prickly Problem; Forest of Thorns; Coil (White)
Destroy 50 ivy branches. Some require magic to be destroyed.
When the description says some require magic to be destroyed, it’s talking about the red branches. You can actually make them go away by attacking them normally, but you will sustain a small amount of damage. You can more efficiently rid them by casting Firaga. The normal ivy branches can just be whacked away with a swing of the keyblade. If you haven’t automatically completed this objective by the time you have completed The World Within, you will when you come back looking for more treasure chests in the post-game.

34: Fairy Bouquet; Forest of Thorns; Minnie Ears (Blue Bow)
Find flowers that represent Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather.
You can find the green flower in the Uncertain Path, and the blue and red flowers in the Rocky Path. Check out the following video for specific locations.

35: Work Together with King Mickey; Depths of Darkness; Minnie Ears (Red Bow)
Link with King Mickey 5 times.
Another simple one; just keep activating the Wayfinder Style Change whenever it becomes available while Mickey is in your party. After the fifth link-up, you’ve got your new Minnie Ears.

NOTE: All objectives past this point can only be unlocked and completed after beating the main game.

Once you complete the main game, you may choose to do three things:
(a) begin a new game fresh from the start
(b) begin a new game while carrying over completion data and unlocked objectives
(c) continue playing your completed file, exploring the areas you’ve been to more in-depth
Each objective going forward will be marked with either (b) or (c), to indicate which of those options would be best suited (or in some cases absolutely necessary) for that particular objective. Since completing all 51 objectives requires you to carry over completion data, none of them will use (a).

36: Turn the Tide; Castle Town; Cheshire Cat
Defeat the Demon Tower with Spellweaver’s Finish command.
(b) When you activate Spellweaver, you must continue landing more strings of hits against enemies to trigger the Finish command prompt. Thus you want to make sure you have damaged the Demon Tower enough that you can defeat it while in Spellweaver mode, but not so little that you defeat it while still attacking it to trigger the Finish command. An ideal time to activate Spellweaver is when Demon Tower has around 2 full bars of HP left. Make sure to save your game before attempting the fight, in case you need to try again.

37: Treasure Hunt in the Castle Town; Castle Town; Coil (Yellow)
Open all of the treasure chests.
(c) When any of the Treasure Hunt objectives become available to you, they will have a handy counter to tell you how many you’re missing. Check out our separate guide to find all the non-zodiac chests in Castle Town.

38: Lingering Memories in the Castle Town; Castle Town; Pulse Blades
Find the lingering memories.
(c) The lingering memories in each world are little symbols that represent those worlds. Though they are called “memories,” plural, there is only one to find in each area. In Castle Town, the symbol is Cinderella’s blue glass slipper, and it can be found on a rooftop, as per the following screenshot.

39: Treasure Hunt in the World Within; The World Within; Minnie Ears (White Bow)
Open all of the treasure chests.
(c) Please see our separate guide for all non-zodiac chest locations in the World Within.

40: Lingering Memories in the World Within; The World Within; Warrior’s Arm Plate
Find lingering memories.
(c) The lingering memory in The World Within is a red apple. See the following screenshot for its location.

KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2_8 FINAL CHAPTER PROLOGUE_10.jpg

41: Flawless Victory; The World Within; Lustrous Wings
Defeat the third phantom Aqua without taking damage.
(b) Please see our separate guide for how to tackle this fight.

42: In the Mirror; The World Within; Tiara
Enter the mirror that appears in the middle of the 12 zodiac symbols and win all battles.
(c) You must complete objective 43 before you can attempt this one. Once you have done that, please see our separate guide for how to complete this objective.

43: Quest for the Zodiac; The World Within; Pauldron
Find and restore the light of the 12 zodiac symbols.
(c) Please see our separate guide to find all 12 zodiac chests.

44: Treasure Hunt in the Forest of Thorns; Forest of Thorns; Classy (White)
Open all of the treasure chests.
(c) Please see our separate guide for all non-zodiac chest locations in the Forest of Thorns.

45: Lingering Memories in the Forest of Thorns; Forest of Thorns; Pulse Antennae
Find lingering memories.
(c) The lingering memory in the Forest of Thorns is an orange sewing machine. You can find it in the Rocky Path section of the Forest of Thorns, on the ground directly underneath the third Darkside (as outlined in objective 32). Check the screenshot below for the location on the map.

KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2_8 FINAL CHAPTER PROLOGUE_2.jpg

46: Slide Along the Ivy Rails; Forest of Thorns; Lustrous Arm Guards
Use Rail Slide to dodge the Darksides’ attacks without taking any damage.
(c) This one’s all about timing. Watch the video below to familiarize yourself with where the Darksides are located, and when you should jump. Some of them are a bit hidden and attack suddenly out of nowhere, so you must keep a close watch and react quickly. If you mess up and get hit, do a soft reset (R1+L1+OPTIONS) and select Continue to load the game from immediately before the rail-sliding.

47: Keeper of the Orb; Forest of Thorns; Lace (Floral)
Defeat the Darkside supporting the Dark Orb without taking any damage.
(b) Please see our separate guide for how best to tackle this fight.

48: Treasure Hunt in the Depths of Darkness; Depths of Darkness; Grace (Pink)
Open all of the treasure chests.
(c) Please see our separate guide for all non-zodiac chest locations in the Depths of Darkness.

49: Lingering Memories in the Depths of Darkness; Depths of Darkness; Iron Ornament
Find lingering memories.
(c) The lingering memory in the Depths of Darkness is the Kingdom Hearts heart symbol. I cannot provide a screenshot due to sharing restrictions in the final chapter of this game, but it is easy to track down. Soon after entering the Depths of Darkness, if you hug the right side you’ll find access to an underground path. If you jump all the way down you’ll find some Heartless to fight as well as a chest containing a Mega-Ether. Instead of proceeding along the path, turn around and head back the way you came in. On the wall of one of the ledges leading back up you will find the final lingering memory.

50: Combined Strength; Depths of Darkness; Polka Dots
Link with King Mickey to defeat the Demon Tower.
(b) As always, save before attempting this battle in case you accidentally defeat the Demon Tower without being linked with Mickey. This is a similar challenge to that of objective 36. You must be linked with Mickey using the Wayfinder Style Change when you finish the fight. It’s actually a bit easier than objective 36, as you had to actually defeat that Demon Tower with Spellweaver’s Finish command. You don’t have to use Wayfinder’s Finish command to defeat this Demon Tower; just have Wayfinder activated when the battle ends.

51: Critical Conquest; Destiny Islands; Crisscross
Defeat the Demon Tide on Critical Mode.
(b) I’ll be honest; after playing through my first time on Proud Mode and dying many, many times before finally taking down the Demon Tide, I was not looking forward to this fight. However, provided you’re up for a bit of grinding, this battle shouldn’t be too stressful at all. Much easier than the Phantom Aqua at the end of the objective 42 boss rush, at any rate. Demon Tide’s attacks do not differ from easier difficulties (that I noticed), so if you’ve faced it a couple times while working through other objectives, you should have a decent idea as to how this fight should play out. Seeing that you can’t even play on Critical Mode until you’ve beat the game once, you’ll already have one fight in your pocket and know what to expect.

If you haven’t reached level 80 up to this point for objective 9, this is the perfect time to grind that out. Head back to the World Within and fight the group of Heartless at the end of the neverending staircase over and over. It should take less than two hours to go from level 70 to 80 using this method, and the difference in your strength and defense going into the Demon Tide fight will be extremely noticeable. Even if you already reached level 80 previously, I recommend getting there again for this fight if you don’t want a lot of trouble. Some guides suggest grinding up to level 90 or even 100, and if you’re having trouble at level 80, absolutely feel free to grind to your heart’s content. 80 should just be your baseline.

Once you’re at least level 80, just enter the fight like you normally would. Start with a Shotlock, then use Thundaga/Thundaja to strike it at multiple points for some decent damage. Make sure to never use all of your MP on attacks, however, so you’ve always got a back-up Curaga at the ready. Whenever the Wayfinder prompt pops up, take advantage of Mickey’s teamwork to deal some heavy blows. As always, avoid the Tide when the Shadows are glowing red.

When Demon Tide starts attacking with the large energy orbs, dodge until it calms down and you can attack again. If it sucks you into the tornado and you’re looking at a top-down view, you can’t escape, but you can dash to dodge. Dodge as best you can until the tornado dissipates, then continue wailing away. It shouldn’t be much longer now until you’ve dealt the final blow, completing your 51st and final objective. Congratulations!

The trophy you receive for finishing all objectives is only a Gold, not Platinum, but it still gives you that warm feeling of accomplishment when it pops.
