During World Cup 2018 and in advance of Euro 2020 it was frustrating to discover that while, the BBC iPlayer on PS4, which also supports VR is a fantastic app, but just where is the ITV Hub for PS4?
Currently, there isn’t an ITV player on PS4, which we presume is something to do with the adverts that are displayed. Sony would surely want a piece of that, and we’d guess that the two companies have never come to an agreement.
It’s been a much-requested app from fans of ITV to be able to watch catch-up and live TV for some time. ITV has responded a couple of times stating that they’re looking into it, but somewhat sadly, nothing has ever happened.
Annoyingly, this is still very much the case in 2019, though a slim hope exists that ITV will do right by folks and release the ITV Hub app for PS4.
Until there’s a dedicated ITV Hub PS4 app, there’s no legal way you can watch the football on your PlayStation 4. There are some illegal options involving a VPN and connecting to a Russian server, but we don’t recommend doing that.
Though it’s frustrating, it’s great to see a BBC app, which is hosting around half the games. Furthermore, you can stream in 4K and HDR, or use your PlayStation VR headset to enjoy a virtual reality experience.
Here’s hoping that as and when the PS5 launches sometime in Holiday 2020 that the next-generation PlayStation will provide support for the ITV Hub application.
As multimedia entertainment machines that do more than just play games, it makes complete sense for both PS4 and PS5 to boast a wide variety of on-demand and live content services. The ITV Hub is just one more example of that.
Naturally, we’ll make sure to update this article if the situation changes! Stay tuned.
