Folk are currently up in arms about whether or not Sony‘s last-generation console has bitten the dust, despite previously saying it would support the PS4 for the next three-four years. Read more below to find out what’s happening with PS4 in 2021. No, the PS4 has not been discontinued.
Is The PS4 Discontinued?
Sony Japan confirmed the week of January 4, 2021 that production has officially ceased on all but one of the PS4 models currently on the market. Specifically, the PS4 Pro line has been given the chop, and all other PS4 Slim models are no longer being manufactured aside from the Jet Black 500GB model.
Meanwhile, the regular PS4 model that launched in November 2013 was already discontinued, so that hasn’t been available for a while. So, no, the PS4 has not been discontinued completely, but there is only one version of the system that will be sold going forward. Also, the PS4 servers are not shutting down.
If you want to get technical, that means the CUH-7000 series and CUH-2000 series (minus the Jet Black model) will no longer be replenished once retailers sell all their remaining stock. So, there you have it!
PS4 launched in November 2013 and went on to become Sony’s second best-selling console of all time.
