Is Guitar Hero Coming To PS4?

Guitar Hero PS4, Is Guitar Hero coming to PS4? The popular music simulation franchise hasn’t seen on Sony’s console since Guitar Hero Live back in 2015, and folk are starting to clamour for a new Guitar Hero PS4 release. But is anything in the pipeline? Or has the series taken its final encore? Let’s find out!

As mentioned, Guitar Hero hasn’t been seen in a few years now, and there’s currently no official announcement regarding the future of the franchise. In addition, there appears to be no plans to port any of the previous games to Sony’s current-generation behemoth.

However, that doesn’t mean a new Guitar Hero PS4 release won’t happen. A patent filed earlier this year indicates that Activision is possibly working on a new peripheral, which looks an awful lot like a Guitar Hero controller.

Here’s the blurb on it:

A music-based video game provides a user-directed sound generation feature. In some embodiments, the user is provided a video game controller simulating a musical instrument, which the user may operate similarly to its real musical instrument counterpart.

It also details something known as Free Play, which is described below:

A processor of a video game console receives input signals from the video game controller and outputs audio samples based on the received input signals. During the free play feature, multiple suggestions as to how to operate the video game controller are simultaneously provided to give users some guidance as to what to play using the video game controller.

Could this pertain to a future Guitar Hero title? It’s possible, but again, nothing has been confirmed at this point. Right now, we’re inclined to believe that any future revival of the series would arrive on next-generation consoles.

Guitar Hero debuted back in 2005 for the PlayStation 2, and has seen numerous iterations over the years for multiple platforms. The franchise has sold over 25 million copies worldwide and as generated over $2 billion in revenue.

Don’t be surprised if Guitar Hero hits the PlayStation 4 at some point in the near future!
