Arrowhead Game Studio has revealed that it will release Helldivers 2: Escalation Of Freedom on August 6, which is set to be the biggest update for the bug-blaster sequel to date.
First on the table is a new difficulty setting known as CR 10: Super Helldiver, which is described as “our most challenging, most relentless dive difficulty level yet” and one that will offer “great rewards” as a result. Beyond that, there’s also a new enemy in the form of The Impaler, who returns from the original game, as well as the Spore Charger, a new Terminid rank that is shrouded in fog.
Also looking to give players a headache is the Terminid Alpha Commander, a supercharged Brood Commander that is not only a big enemy in terms of size, but also calls up on lesser bugs to help him out.

The last addition I want to highlight about the Escalation of Freedom update is that we’re making changes to mitigate the problem of grief kicking in Helldivers 2. While it’s our hope that players engage with the game in good faith and sportsmanship, we do recognize that some players are using the team kicking to grief others.
To help improve this we have implemented a system where if a player is kicked, they will spawn into a new session as the host with all of the team’s loot from their previous session. All items can now be picked up by the player before extraction. The squad doing the kicking will see a message in the chat widget that a player has been kicked, yet their loot remains unchanged.
On the location front, you’ll also be able to explore the swamps with a new makeover, with rolling fog and untamed flora giving off a spooky atmosphere as you navigate the area, flashlight always at the hand.
