The next game from God of War developer Sony Santa Monica will apparently feature complex narratives and strong character arcs according to a pair of job listings spotted by TGP.
The first of these job adverts calls for a Lead Narrative Designer who has a “deep knowledge of writing complex narratives for games”. You can catch the full blurb from the advert below:
“We are seeking a Lead Narrative Designer. If you love collaborating with talented developers to create defining games, join us as we embark on a new journey. The ideal candidate not only has deep knowledge of writing complex narratives for games but is capable of executing the narrative within the game through the intended player experience. This individual will be responsible for architecting and designing the narrative systems which realize the Game Directors’ vision.”
The second of these adverts meanwhile seeks a Lead Writer who ” has a mastery of storytelling, and deeply understands the marriage between gameplay and narrative.” as seen below:
“The ideal candidate has a mastery of storytelling, and deeply understands the marriage between gameplay and narrative. This individual will be responsible for crafting powerful storylines, strong character arcs, and compelling dialogue while maintaining an equal focus on building and developing the writing team.”
Since God of War released for PlayStation 4 back in 2018, it has long been thought that Sony Santa Monica is working on a follow-up to its bombastic PS4 exclusive – into which the notion of ‘complex narratives’ and ‘strong character arcs’ would arguably feature prominently. With Sony’s newly re-scheduled PlayStation 5 games showcase now set for June 11 – could we see the fruits of Sony Santa Monica’s labors there?
One can only hope.
