Sword of the Sea, a brand new adventure game from developer Giant Squid, is officially in the works for PS5 and is billed as the studio’s ‘most ambitious game to date.’
Sword of the Sea takes place in an abandoned realm where the terrain flows in waves, and introduces the Hoversword as a new movement-based mechanic. This acts like a snowboard, skateboard, and overboard combined, allowing players to gain momentum and achieve incredible speed to “catch big air as you explore skatepark-like ruins, lost in the tides of the Necropolis of the Gods.”
You are the Wraith – resurrected in a desolate world and tasked with restoring life to it as you explore submerged ruins and the vibrant, varied cultures within. Surf through sinking tombs, mysterious shipwrecks, and petrified battlefields – and bring giant shoals of fish and creatures back in the process. But beware- this land is also home to massive leviathans that will stand in your way.
Giant Squid is marrying the speed and flow of skating games with the emotional core and exploration expected of the studio, which is set to deliver a game that excels at delivering both exhilarating and introspective moments alike.
Sword of the Sea is due out on PS5 with a release date yet to be announced.
