Digital Foundry has put Ghost of Tsushima running on PS5 through its paces, and the good news is it manages to hit a buttery-smooth 60 FPS without any hiccups.
The frame rate upgrade comes via a performance boost given when you play the game on the PS5, as Ghost of Tsushima does not have its own dedicated version of the game. When played on PS4 and PS4 Pro, Sucker Punch Productions‘ samurai title is capped at 30 FPS.

Interestingly, there isn’t even a dedicated update for the game on PS5. Instead, when you insert the disc or boot up your digital copy for PS5, the game recognises Sony’s next-generation console and unlocks the frame rate. Nothing else has changed apart from the 60 FPS when played on PS5, however, so don’t expect any extra bells and whistles.
Still, it’s good to know that Ghost of Tsushima runs so well when played on PS5. Could we get a dedicated remaster at some point? It’s possible, but when it plays this good already, we’re not too bothered right now.
Ghost of Tsushima was release for the PS4 in July 2020.
