Final Fantasy XV Episode Ardyn Gets an Official Release Date

Final Fantasy XV Episode Ardyn Release Date

Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy XV Episode Ardyn will release on the 26th March 2019.

This being the now two-and-a-bit-year-old game’s final slice of DLC following the sudden cancellation of episodes Aranea, Lunafreya, and Noctis (known collectively as “The Dawn of the Future”) late last year. Which was due, in turn, to a directional change within developer Square Enix itself.

Final Fantasy XV Episode Ardyn – Prologue

For those who are interested in continuing their journey through Final Fantasy XV next month, Square Enix has released a short prologue video over on YouTube to help get you in the mood.

Set 2000 years before the events of the main game and rendered in the same visual style as Final Fantasy XV Brotherhood (a series of anime shorts that were also published on YouTube prior to the game’s release), the Episode Ardyn Prologue attempts to reveal the “story of suffering, death, and resurrection” leading up to the world-changing encounter between Ardyn and Noctis.

“A Pleasing Return to Form for a Much Beloved Series”

Having endured an interminably long development cycle, Final Fantasy XV released in the winter of 2016 to a largely positive reception from fans and critics alike.

Many (ourselves included) felt that, for the most part, it succeeded in recapturing the spirit of the series’ early days. However, it wasn’t without its problems.

Before a string of updates fixed some of the bigger issues, the game’s story was more than a little disjointed. While, despite its flashy visuals, combat quickly lost its shine in a flurry of random encounters and frantic button presses.

Nevertheless, Final Fantasy XV possessed certain indefinable qualities that earned it a solid 8.5/10 in the PSU review and convinced Square Enix to release a condensed version, Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition, two years later.
