Far Cry 5 release date hinted at by Ubisoft

Ubisoft’s Tommy François has suggested that we may not see a new Assassin’s Creed or Far Cry game released in 2017, echoing previous statements made by the French publishing giant’s CEO, Yves Guillemot.

Far Cry 5 release date hint

Speaking during an interview with IGN, Francois, who serves as Vice President of Editorial for Ubisoft, revealed that the industry giant is looking to give projects more time in the oven, specifically when it comes to having them up and running in Alpha builds.

I’ll tell you what. We believe alpha for these games needs to be one year before release,” he said. “We’re trying to achieve that. That’s super f****** blunt, I don’t even know if I’m allowed to say this. This is the goal we’re going for: alpha one year before, more quality, more polish.

So if this means biting the [bullet] and not having an Assassin’s game, or a Far Cry [in 2017], f*** it.”

“I mean it from that perspective. We still need to have an Alpha, and we need it available as early as we possibly can, because the more time we have for this the more polish we have, the more time we can change, refine, swap systems. You just can’t take shortcuts,” he continued.

New Assassin’s Creed release date not set in stone, could skip 2017

As mentioned, Guillemot had previously alluded that the new Assassin’s Creed game would not ship in 2017 as expected. While nothing official has been confirmed at this point, it has been rumored the title will be named Assassin’s Creed Empire and will kick start a brand new trilogy in the franchise.

As for Far Cry, the most recent entry in the open-world action franchise arrived earlier this year with Far Cry Primal for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Prior to that, Far Cry 4 was released in 2014 for multiple platforms, though a new Far Cry game has yet to be detailed by the publisher.

Of course, it’s not all bad news for Assassin’s Creed fans. We’ve already had the spin-off series Assassin’s Creed Chronicles earlier this year, and there’s the Assassin’s Creed Ezio Collection to look forward too this November for PS4 and Xbox One. If that wasn’t enough, the movie adaptation of Ubisoft’s stab-happy series is hitting cinemas in the U.S. this December.
