One of the designers on the original Fallout 3 has said that a possible remaster of the 2008 post-apocalyptic RPG would need to revamp the game’s gunplay in order to bring it up to modern standards.
Speaking with VideoGamer, Bruce Nesmith, who also worked on The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion as lead designer, suggested that Fallout 3 Remastered — which was seemingly leaked in court documents alongside the now-released Oblivion Remastered — would have to update the combat, as the original’s ‘didn’t hold up to shooters at the time.’

What did you see in Fallout 4? That will tell you what they felt was necessary to change from Fallout 3. I know in Fallout 4 there was a lot of work done on the gun combat, because Fallout 3 is the first time they ever tried to do a shooter-style game. And, well, I think the work that was done was amazing.
[Fallout 3 combat] didn’t hold up to shooters at the time. Also, it’s an RPG shooter, it’s not a run-and-gun shooter. But a lot of work was done on that for Fallout 4. So I anticipate seeing a lot of that work go into it, assuming they’re doing the same thing.
Bethesda hasn’t officially announced Fallout 3 Remastered, but leaker NateTheHate recently claimed that it is indeed in development, although we won’t see it for a while yet. In related news, Nemsith heaped praise on The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remastered during the same interview, suggesting it could even be called Oblivion 2.0 due the amount of work put into it.
Fallout 3 was originally released in 2008 for the PS3, PC, and Xbox 360.
