Codemasters has shared new details on the highly anticipated F1 25, including the overhaul it has made to MyTeam and what to expect from Driver Career. Here’s the lowdown on everything we’ve learned!
My Team 2.0
This year’s entry in the My Team mode will be a significant revamp of the mode that was first introduced to the F1 series of games in 2020. In order to make the My Team mode more realistic to its real life counterpart the “owner driver” model used in previous entries of the mode will be jettisoned altogether. This will give players a more authentic experience where they will be responsible for the management of a pair of drivers.
This change will open up more eventful gameplay as you deal with managing the interests of two competing drivers whereas previously as an owner who also drives you would always favour your own goals. You will now have the dilemmas of trying to keep the egos happy on the driver front, whilst trying to manage the progress of the team as a whole.
A new Owner Perks system allows you to earn XP for the choices you make as the season progresses. Using a management training system, players can customise their character skills in the 3 different branches of the My Team experience – Engineering, Corporate and Personnel. This gives the player more agency over the style of team boss they want to play as.
New Progression System
Fan Rating is a new feature in the F1 25 My Team mode. This new progression system is a representation of your team’s prestige within the pinnacle of Motorsport. By completing accolades and winning rivalries you can increase this rating. The more prestigious your team becomes the more favourably the bigger name drivers will look upon your team, giving you more pulling power when it comes to driver contract negotiations. How your team is viewed across the paddock now determines a lot more when it comes to the progress of your team.
Team HQ Hub
An all new Team HQ space is included this year which will reflect your progress as you try to grow the worldwide reputation of your team. This space evolves as you grow in stature, giving a visual representation of the fruits of your labour. As you improve your facility the scale of the workforce in each of your departments will increase bringing with it the headache of managing the associated costs to try balance the books, while also eking out the most on-track performance improvements possible.
The facility upgrades system is a massive improvement over previous instalments allowing for a wider range of tweaks and advances to be improved upon. Each of the three departments within your facility have a department head who you can interact with. These animated characters are very beneficial in getting to grips with the new systems and also provide you with key information that can help you make informed decisions on how best to help the team achieve its targets.
Your R&D efforts are now split into two separate systems giving not only a more realistic feel but also opens up the difficult choices of which driver gets upgrades first, and the consequences that your actions throw up. If you build a name for yourself as regularly favouring one driver over the other ties into the aforementioned contracts system, so more deliberation and consideration of the fallout from your choices gives a more realistic weight to decisions you have to take.
Growing your relationship with your sponsors over time can open up access to rewards like money, XP or new sponsor liveries to use on your cars. So building loyalty to sponsors can open up many different benefits.
Driver Icons
Players will now have a lot more control over driver icons in both My Team and Driver Career modes. You will be able to customise the way you use the driver icons to your own personal preference. You also have the option to allow AI-controlled teams to recruit driver icons for a more rounded experience. The amount of customisation will also give legs to the replayability of the modes as you tweak things for differing playthroughs.
