Ex-Ghostwire Tokyo Creative Director Unveils Her New Studio, Unseen

Ikumi Nakamura, the former creative director on Tango Gameworks’ Ghostwire: Tokyo, has announced the name of her new studio formed last year — Unseen.

Nakamura-san gained a lot of praise for her appearance at E3 2019 to announce the game on stage, although not long after she confirmed she had departed Tango Gameworks. Now, speaking in a YouTube video, Nakamura revealed she wanted to create a studio featuring developers from across the globe, and to make titles that will “break boundaries.”

When the pandemic struck my worldview changed. I was concerned how the changes in the world, in addition to becoming a mother, would alter the creator within. In the end, I needn’t have worried. Underneath, I’m still the same creator I’ve always been.

My game production often goes beyond the barriers of conventional standard processes. I’m building a new team in a way I have never experienced before. Working and learning with this amazing group of talent raises the bar for all of us. I love breaking boundaries and making people say ‘wow.’

Prior to working at The Evil Within developer, Nakamura worked at Clover Studios as an artist for Okami, and then joined PlatinumGames to work on Bayonetta and the now-cancelled Scalebound. She joined the Shinji Mikami-fronted Tango Gameworks in 2010.
