Two new development studios have been formed by various ex members of ZA/UM, the studio behind Disco Elysium, known as Longdue Games and Dark Math Games.
Longdue Games was formed by around 12 ex-ZA/UM developers and are working on a spiritual successor to Disco Elysium, which was released for PS5 & PS4 back in March 2021. That’s not all though, as Dark Math Games has also been established by a larger group of 20 people from the same outfit, and are working on XXX Nightshift, a detective RPG.

Longdue Games’ Narrative Director, Grant Robert, commented:
At Longdue, we’re inspired by decades of classic RPGs, from Ultima and Wizardry, through Fallout and Planescape, to the justifiably adored Disco Elysium. We’re excited to continue that legacy with another narrative-first, psychological RPG, where the interplay between inner worlds and external landscapes is the beating heart of the experience. We’re building a world-class team for a world-class game that will tell a world-class story, and we can’t wait to show you more.
Dark Math Games meanwhile is aiming to provide “ a dee single-player role-playing experience with many tools and layers of gameplay,” in addition to a “unique companion dynamic” which the developer clams “adds more fun and offers different paths to solve cases.”
Earlier this year it was reported that ZA/UM was set to lay off a quarter of its staff and had shelved plans for a Disco Elysium expansion. Going back a few years, a number of developers from the studio claimed they were defrauded by the company, although ZA/UM responded by stating the individuals were let due to egregious misconduct.
