E3 2012: Beyond: Two souls will have multiple endings

Quantic Dream’s Beyond: Two Souls will have alternate endings. Though executive producer David Cage didn’t talk about this aspect of the game during our E3 presentation, the menu screen shown on the gigantic TV behind him clearly displayed the words "Alternate Endings."

We now know that Beyond will allow us to switch play between two main characters, and that Jodie’s relationship with her invisible friend Aiden may take a few twists and turns. Cage also told us that Aiden has multiple personalities. This has led us to speculate that Jodie’s story could very well come to either good or bad conclusion, and that we may actually be able to decide her fate through the choices that we make when controlling Aiden.

One aspect of the game that Cage touched upon was auras. Aiden sees auras when he’s floating around the game world and can interact with people and glowing objects. Cage tells us that different auras mean different things, so there’s obviously a huge element of choice open to the player. Maybe that means we can decide whether to help or hinder Jodie and then see a good or bad ending based on our decisions?

All we can do is speculate at this point, of course, but it’s clear that Beyond: Two Souls isn’t just going to be about clever interactions and on-screen prompts; there’s a lot more to it than first meets the eye.
